If you need an escape from work or just a change of scenery, perhaps a weekend (or week) in Lake Havasu City, Arizona on scenic Lake Havasu is what the doctor ordered. This charming desert oasis is possessed of an infectious vibrancy.

There are award winning golf courses, shaded beaches, the charming English Village in the shadow of the historic London Bridge, and in the surrounding deserts and mountains there are miles of scenic trails ideal for hiking or mountain. The city is ideally suited for boating, fishing, and offroading. As a bonus, fall and winter temperatures are ideal.

And, of course, there are an array of events that add zest to any weekend event. On October 8, and November 19, the Christians Rods and Customs Car Club host “The Gathering” car show and automotive swapmeet at Havasu 95 Speedway.

Also scheduled for Saturday, October 8, the Havasu Art Guild will be hosting the Havasu Art Guild Fall Expo. On dispaly, and for sale, as will be an expansive slection of original art, ceramics, jewelry, glasswork, woodwork and fiber arts.

Saturday, the 15th is chock full of a diverse array of activities. For the first time in the United States, the International Scooter Federation is holding the World Chmpionships in Lake Havasu City on the beach at the Tinnell Memorial Sports Complex in Rotary Community Park.

One the 20th and 21st of October, Bridgewater Links at London Bridge Resort is transformed into a sea of glittering chrome during the 44th Annual Relics & Rods Run To The Sun. One of the largest auto shows in the southwest, this event attracts hundreds of entries from throughout the country.

Vehicles entered fall into two categories. The central focus is on cars and trucks manufactured before 1977. But this year there will also be a special display of American muscle cars from 1978 to current for Camaros, Challengers, Corvettes, and Mustangs.

Then that evening at Havasu 95 Speedway in Sara Park, it is an ASA-sanctioned paved oval track stock car race. Classes run include late models, modifieds, trucks, street stocks, legends, Bandoleros, and factory stocks.

And if you want something a little more subdued, on the same weekend there is the London Bridge Days Music Festival. This event by the creator of Rockabilly Reunion is part of the city’s anniversary of the London Bridge celebrations.

On any given weekend, there are an array of events in Lake Havasu City. Begin planning your visit by reviewing the calendar of events on the city’s tourism website.

But if you are coming to Lake Havasu City for a weekend getaway, be sure to include Mudshark Brewery and Public House in your plans. There isn’t a better place in Lake Havasu City to gather with friends, and enjoy a one of a kind, nationally acclaimed craft beer.
